Lighthouses, Safety And Navigation

Lighthouses, particularly lighthouses in storms, are a visual metaphor for safety and guidance. In this lighthouse image the is a sailor rowing a small row boat through the rough seas further accentuating the adversity that ocean storms represent. The row boat in a storm is also an iconic symbol of overcoming adversity. The man in the row boat is wearing bright yellow rain gear as he mans the oars. Dark storm clouds drift overhead and the lighthouse beacon shines out overhead from the glowing lamp. The ligthouse itself sits on a rocky outcropping as the waves crash against its base.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse

This image began as Pigeon Point lighthouse, but using Photoshop I turned it into a conceptual stock image by placing it on a cliff photographed in near Fort Bragg, California, with waves photographed off the coast of San Francisco, and stormy clouds photographed in Colorado. The man in the boat is actually me photographed in my studio. The boat itself I photographed in Myanmar of all places!
