Lion Silhouette

A lion stands silhouetted against an orange sun, at the edge of a cliff, and looks out over his kingdom. This male lion is the epitome of majestic and noble and a symbol of power, strength and dominance. This striking lion sunset picture can be easily cropped to square, vertical or horizontal with ample copy space for headlines and text.

Lions make great stock photos as they are powerful metaphors for strength, power and dominance and as the biggest predatory cats they hold a special place in everyone's psyche. Movies such as the Lion King further enhance the positive veiw people have about lions. Lions are both feared and loved...a potent combination that creates memorable images.

I was fortunate enough to rent a lion to photograph in my studio. The lion trainer told me the lion would cost $1,200 dollars. I asked for how long and she replied "as long as he wants". That turned out to be about 45 minutes. Well worth the money too I might add. In fact, one of the best things about my career as a stock photographer has been the ability to do and see interesting things financed by my work. I have rented lions, tigers, elephants, deer, reindeer, cats, dogs, turtles, snakes, chickens, turkeys and more. What fun!

The Power Of Silhouettes

The power of silhouettes should not be underestimated. They lend a powerful graphic quality to an image, can make for a quick read, and are attention getting by virtue of the face they are so seldom used these days.
