The fourth of July celebration fireworks over San Francisco Bay are captured in this vibrant and colorful photo that speaks of patriotism, excitement and fun times in the Summer. The fireworks were launched from a barge just off of the Aquatic Park breakwater, and photographed from the 14th floor of the Fontana apartment building at the foot of Van Ness Street adjacent to Fisherman's Wharf.

To capture the brilliant display of pyrotechnics I used a Nikon D800 set to F11 at ISO of 100 and with the shutter set to B. The exposures worked out beautifully. To create this particular fireworks photo I composited several different captures, using Photoshop, to better communicate what it felt like to watch the show.

Fireworks, Celebration And Color

Among the concepts that fireworks images can illustrate are color and celebration. The intense color combined with a sense of energy and motion can make for compelling messages about color reproduction, fidelity and intensity. The fact that fireworks are virtually always celebratory in nature enhances that aspect of conceptual metaphor as well. Other possible areas of representation include vacations, travel and inspiration. And finally, we don't want to forget patriotism and freedom either!
