A Perfect Beach

Ras Erisa beach on Socotra pretty much fits the definition of a perfect tropical beach. Beautiful warm blue-green waters gently wash the white sand under skies filled with fluffy white clouds (in this photo the clouds are more golden from the setting sun). When we were there nary a soul could be seen save for a few of the local boys playing soccer on the sand. Various sea birds, including cormorants, glided by and in the distance the solitary fishing boat slowly made its way across the waves.

Beaches, Photography And Living Life

Often as I get into taking pictures I lose track of everything except that attempt to get a given image I have in my mind, On this beach, in far off Socotra island off the coast of Yemen, I kept reminding myself to enjoy the experience. Back home in San Francisco it was cold and raining, and here I am on the other side of the world with my toes in the warm sea water and a warm gentle breeze at my back. Not bad...but important to enjoy!

Images like this one are perfect for advertising tropical vacation destinations whether such spots are specific to the image or more general in nature. This beach, for example, has the allure that can work for anywhere from Hawaii to Tahiti to the Caribbean. It is a metaphor for Getting Away From It All, relaxation, and tropical vacations. The image can work as a square, horizontal or vertical with copy space to spare. And heck, if you REALLY want to get away from it all, Socotra is a pretty darn good pick. No Internet to speak of, almost no tourists, and scenery that has to be scene to be believed. If you are looking for a journey that offers beauty, excitement, novelty and relaxation I highly recommend a trip to Yemen with Socotra as the focal point!
