Luka Esenko stands on a rock outcropping as he photographs a stunning sunrise over a deep gorge on Socotra Island in the Homhil Protected Area. I personally was a tad afraid to go out on end of that rock! The day before Jeremy Woodhouse was actuallly jumping up and clicking his heels together, while wearing flip flops, on that outcropping!

From subjects you can get nowhere else, like Dragon Blood Trees and Bottle Trees, to dramatic cliffs and valleys to goat herds to beautiful white sand beaches there is something new to shoot everytime you turn around! If your in to hiking with your camera this is pretty close to paradise!  

Travel Photography On Socotra

Travel photography on Socotra really is more akin to landscape photography. While "travel" subjects such as fisherman, boats, and local people abound, it is really the landscapes that offer the most dramatic and unusual photo opportunites. A "photo walk" on Socotra can be arduous, but rewarding with dramatic vistas and rare flora. Heck, even the Egyptian vultures seem almost tame and it isn't difficult to get within a few feet of them! If nothing else, the island is incrdibly inspiring!
