Massage Cats is a funny anthropomorphic picture of one cat giving another a massage. The image is part John Lund's Animal Antics collection, a series of funny photos feature cats, dogs and other animals. The images were originally created for greeting cards (this one has the caption "Paws & Relax...Its Your Birthday"). The image is now available on a variety of products ranging from mouse pads and pet bowls to coffee mugs and calendars at CafePress.com.

To create the images we first photograph the locations and then the animals, followed by the props. When we photograph the cats we use professional animals along with animal trainers. The trainers know the cats, what they are capable of, and how to get the most out of them without causing them stress. We always have back up cats in case one of the cats isn't in the mood to be photographed. We work from layouts and make sure we shoot each part of the cat in the position it will be needed in the final photograph.

To put this image together we photographed the cats, a turban-wrapped towel (on my assistant), black and white tiles that we laid out on the floor, a potted palm, and a miniature massage table created by our art director, Collette Kulak.

Once we have all the parts I use Photoshop to put them together. It usually takes me about a days worth of Photoshop to finish the work.

This particular picture seems to have hit a cord with the public and can be found in pirated versions all over the Internet.
