An Angry Crowd Advances By Torch Light At Night

This classic photo of an angry mob of people advancing by torch light at night captures the imagination and resonates with any situation in which a vast number of people join together in outrage. Every person in this dangerous crowd of people is model released. They are carrying pitchforks, ax handles, a machete and torches. Some of them shake their fists in rage. The crowd is diverse in ethnicity, age, and gender. This is truly a universal group of ticked-off people. This could be a picture of a demonstration against political repression...a social media revolution.

This iconographic mob of angry people makes a great stock photo for illustrating a wide range of concepts. This is a picture of people connected in outrage by social media. This can be a photo of social networking bringing people together for a cause. One theme in this mob picture is people joining together in supporting a cause, while another idea illustrated is that of public outrage. Are these people acting together against a corrupt politician, or a dishonest retailer? Are they angry at a perceived religious transgression, or the high price of a commodity such as oil, gas or food prices? I suppose a case could be made that this image can illustrate a perverse kine of team work. It certainly represents adversity, challenge and obstacles. It is also an image we can all identify with on a very visceral level.

Model Released Rioting Crowd Photos

Every individual in this rioting crowd photo is model released. I photographed the people, faces contorted with anger, individually over a period of about a year. I used Photoshop to composite the scene into a cohesive group image, albeit a very angry group! This image becomes, in effect, a parody and uses such symbols as pitch forks, ax handles and torches to take the image to such an over-the-top cliche that it becomes humorous. So not only is it a great image of a scary, angry mob, but it is a funny picture of an angry mob. I was careful to craft it in such a way that it can be easily cropped as a square, horizontal or vertical. It even works well as a thumbnail making it effective for use on the Internet and even mobile devices such as smart phones.
