Information and Data Overload Bringing Value to Curators and Filters

Information and data overload, as illustrated by this stock photo of a woman executive with her head surrounded by swirling and orbiting binary numbers,is fast becoming the disease of the moment. As we are bombarded more and more by an incessant stream of data, of facts, figures, statistics, photos and videos, are ability to deal with information is being stretched to the breaking point. The information available to us, the information being forced upon us, is almost unmanageable. In the case of photography, with literally billions of images available online, the photos themselves, all visual assets, are becoming less important than the curators and the filters that need to be put into place to make those assets manageable and therefor valuable.

Organizing, Filtering and Mining Data

Organizing and filtering data is key to mining it, to converting information into useful forms. When faced with too much information we freeze up, become deer in the headlights, unable to move forward and conduct business. There is too much of a good thing. This picture of information overload has been created to help promote, advertise and editorialize about the services and products that can help us deal with data. Every business is being faced with implementing databases, archiving information, and even streaming a constant flow of facts, figures and visuals to key people and even the everyday worker bees as well. The need for photos depicting too much data will become increasingly important.

Paralysis by Information Overload

This woman business executive, seated at her desk and computer, is paralyzed by information overload. The binary numbers in orbit around her head are symbolic of the constant wash of information over us. Presumably this data has come from her computer, from the Internet, and collected like a swarm of angry bees buzzing endlessly around her. You can tell from her expression that she feels hopeless and over matched against the incessant flow of data. She needs IT help, she needs database support, she needs filters to help her deal with the challenges of all the facts, figures and imagery that faces her every second of her job. This woman needs access to technology that can make the data manageable and useful.
