This lighthouse photograph includes stormy waves and dark clouds as the light from the beacon stretches out to sea. This is an unusual lighthouse with a daymark of black horizontal stripes. Daymark is the term used to describe special markings of a lighthouse, visible during daylight, that helps sailors and seafarers identify the lighthouse they are viewing. It is often essential, even in this day and age, for seafarers to know precisely where they are...and perhaps particularly so if they have lost power and therefore the use of modern electronic navigation equipment and aids.

To create this lighthouse photo I used six shots of the ocean waves, two photos of a stormy sky, and two separate pictures of lighthouses. I used Photoshop to create the composite image. It is a fictional image to portray concepts of risk, danger, adversity and challenge as well as positive themes such as guidance, safety, security, salvation and the way forward.
