The handshake is a vital image in communications about business concepts and there is a huge need for handshake images that transcend the normal and everyday photos that have so proliferated and clogged up the image distribution channels. Today's stock shooter will only be successful if they can create photographs that fill a need and stand out from the crowd. This photo is a great example of an age-old and badly needed concept stock photo shot in a new, different and exciting way.

Adding Excitement To Stock Photography

As stock photographers it is important for us to continually find new and fresh, exciting, ways to show those same old concepts that are always needed and never seem to change. One way to do this is to take the old symbols and put them into a new environment, a new context. I wanted to communicate the complexity and speed of modern business. I captured this background image on a trip to New York. It was shot with a one-second exposure in Time Square. The color and streaking lights indicate the hectic nature and speed of business, the hint of structure provided by the ghostly image of the buildings add just a bit of the sense of place, an important addition to the overall success of the image. The light streaks all seem to lead right into the handshake bringing a viewer's attention to the most important aspect of the image. I used Photoshop to composite the two images together. The handshake was photographed in my studio.

Uses Of Stock Photos of Handshakes In Business and Life

This is a versatile stock photo that was designed to work well in any crop, be it a vertical for a magazine cover or a horizontal for a spread or even a billboard. There is plenty of room to add headlines or body copy. The business attire adds just a bit of corporate identity, but doesn't eliminate the image from use for non-business needs. As far as hand shaking photos go, this is the most dynamic and "alive" one that I have eve seen!
