Sparks Tumbling Through Space In A Captivating Stream Of Slow Motion Video

Ordinary sparks become extraordinary when viewed in extreme slow motion. The sparks become floating shapes that drift unevenly towards the viewer accompanied by streaks and small sparkling bursts of light. The effect is mesmerizing and mysterious and even meditative. We have a sense of motion, a sense that we are heading to some unknown destination. That is what happens when you capture everyday things at 1000 frames per second; we are treated to visual revelations that are unknowable to the naked eye.

Capturing Streaming Sparks In Slow Motion

The capture process was a simple one. Against a black background we simply applied a piece of scrap metal to a grinding wheel. The result was this conceptual light show. Captured at 1000 frames a second, we process the files to play back at 30 frames per second.

These clips can be used for titles and credits, or as transitions of a reflective mental state. They make great backgrounds for all kinds of uses and effects.
