The Spa, Health And Beauty Industry is experiencing tremendous growth. Industry revenues grew last year at a rate of 17.8 percent (International Spa Association 2008 figures). Over 95 million visits are made to spas in the U.S. alone, while Baby Boomers are predicted to increase demand for spa services in China, Germany, and Australia and the U.K. as well as the United States. In the U.S. alone spa visits generate over $5 billion dollars a year. This huge and growing market represents an opportunity for photographers, particularly for stock photographers. As the industry grows, not only does the need for pictures grow, but, the competition for clients pushes that need even further. Spas and purveyors of health and beauty products will have to distinguish themselves by using higher and higher quality photos. If you are producing advertising and promotional materials for the spa, health and beauty industry then you will need to access stock photos that offer the most value. Saving money by buying a cheap photo is a poor strategy for drawing in more business. Even worse, using a photo that is also being used by your competition will immediately cast the veracity of your whole marketing effort into question! It might be a wise idea to confine your searches to Rights Managed imagery where you can know if your competition has used the same image. If you use a RM image, and no one else in your industry has yet used it, you can probably be sure that the chance of your competition using the same image will be very slight. If they are searching Rights Managed images as well, then they too will be checking to see if competitors are using it. This can make a huge difference in the effectiveness of your campaign. Remember, the cost of the pictures, the cost of stock photos and imagery, is of secondary importance when compared the effectiveness or your advertising and promotion efforts. The types of photography that you will need include overall scenes that show tranquility and beauty, tighter shots that show specific treatments such as aroma therapy, acupuncture, water therapies and various heat related treatments (think warm stones on a beautiful woman's back). Acupuncture is the center point of traditional Chinese medicine. According to the Chinese, the human body has both Yin and Yang energy and to be in good health needs to have these two energies in balance. When the bodie's energies get out of balance, acupuncture (most often the insertion of needles into the skin) can be used to clear congested pathways or meridians to restore the flow and balance of the Yin and Yang energy. While western doctors and scientists investigate these alternative and holistic energies we can at least be assured that acupuncture appears to have little to no negative side effects.
