It is an important part of health and beauty treatments in the growing spa industry. Acupuncture is the center point of traditional Chinese medicine. According to the Chinese, the human body has both Yin and Yang energy and to be in good health needs to have these two energies in balance. When the body's energies get out of balance, acupuncture (most often the insertion of needles into the skin) can be used to clear congested pathways or meridians to restore the flow and balance of the Yin and Yang energy. While western doctors and scientists investigate these alternative and holistic energies we can at least be assured that acupuncture appears to have little to no negative side effects. I have had treatments several times but did not persue them long enough to determine if I was getting any real benefit from it. The woman who's photograph I took did offer anecdotal evidence that it was working for her.
