The Birth of Venus

The "Birth of Venus" has been recreated in this humorous adaptation of Sandro Boticelli's famous painting in which Venus is portrayed as a coy elephant. The image is rich in detail with a shoreline that has been composited from numerous separate photos. The generally accepted meaning of the work is revealing the birth of love and of spiritual beauty of the primary or driving force of life.

Venus On The Half Shell

The Birth of Venus, in which the goddess Venus is portrayed standing on a shell along the ocean shore, is often referred to as Venus on the half shell. Of course, in this humorous take-off on the famous painting the goddess is an elephant. The elephant was photographed in Thailand. The coastline is made up of numerous photos shot along the Northern California coast in the Ft. Bragg area. The shell and flowers were photographed in the studio. Stephanie D. Roeser crafted the image using Photoshop.
