Stampeding Herd of White Horses

In this photo of a herd of stampeding horses the animals are galloping towards the viewer in dramatic fashion. Dust and dirt is being kicked up by their hooves as they charge forward in a display of energy power and motion. Horses, especially white horses, are symbols of good and purity. Horses running and galloping further represent freedom, a natural state, the parts of us that forever remain wild.

Photographing Stampeding Horses

So the question comes up. How does one photograph a herd of horses stampeding towards the camera? Well, in my case, a friend happened to have a white horse. After she finishes grooming her she lets the horse out into a corral and after being cooped up in a stall all night the horse bucks and spins and gallops around kicking up her heels and "feeling her oats". I went out to the stables for three visits to capture the shenanigans. It was kind of scary having the horse come flying up to me, hooves flashing by in a fury of dirt and dust. I can't imagine having an entire herd racing towards me! I used Photoshop to composite various images of the horse, whose name is Bea by the way, into the stampede image. I added dust and dirt that was created by pushing a leaf blower into a dirt road. The sky was from a sunrise I photographed on Socotra Island off the coast of Yemen.

Galloping Horses, The Way Forward And Market Forces

Galloping horse photos, particularly a picture of a stampeding herd of horses, are great metaphors for the way forward, a rush to get somewhere (a great sale perhaps?) and market forces not to mention many other business concepts. The horses can symbolize a mad dash to get to something desirable, or a panicked flight away from risk and danger. The exact message becomes clear with the accompanying text and headlines when the image is used in an advertisement or editorial. Perhaps most importantly, the image has undeniable impact!
