We took an hour and a half to hike down to this oasis-like swimming hole in the Homhil Protected Area of the Yemeni island fo Socotra. The water was warm and refreshing after the hike in the tropical morning sun. The palms trees provided a nice shade for resting and our lunch. We needed time to relax as well to prepare us for our hike back up to the camp. The route back was lined with Bottle Trees and Dragon Blood trees, but was pretty steep and rugged.
Fantasy Swimming Hole
Is this a fantasy swimming hole or what? The only negative was how slippery parts of it could be where algae has grown on the water's ege...did I mention slippery? What a great photography vacation this trip turned out to be! Socotra island offers a wealth of possibilities to photographers. There are the famed Dragon Blood trees, fat, cute Bottle trees, Frankincense trees, Egyptian vultures, white sand beaches, breathtaking mountain scenery and friendly local people. Socotra is an ideal destination for adventure travelers and photo enthusiasts.
