Beaches, Cormorants And Socotra

A flock of Cormorants are silhouetted against a golden sunset sky as they fly low over a beautiful white sand beach on the Yemeni island of Socotra. Socotra offers a bounty of visual treats for any photographer including beaches, mountains, canyons and the unique Dragon Blood Trees and Bottle trees. The people of Socotra are warm and friendly. While accomodations can be a bit rustic it just adds to the adventure and the escape from our everyday existence. 

Qalansiyah, Yemen

This stretch of beach is at Qalansiyah, on the island of Socotra. We walked for the better part of an hour up the beach without seeing another tourist. As a matter of fact, in two days around the beach we didn't see any other tourists! We did encounter fishermen plying their trade, and a couple of youngsters sliding down the sand dunes on pieces of cardboard, and a group of young boys playing soccer on the sad. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular.
