When I saw this vulture alight on a post nearby I realized I could positon myself so that the morning sun would be hidden behind him creating a striking silhouette. I think this Egyptian Vulture image could make a nice inset photo for a brochure on vacationing in Socotra...you never know!
Egyptian Vulture On Socotra Island
The Egyptian vultures on Socotra island are something else. They are, in their own way, beautiful birds. They are a mix of ivory and black feathers with orange heads. They have a majesty about them as they soar and glide through the air on their outstretched wings. But is really interesting about them is how tame they are. They understand that where humans are there will be food. We had them almost eating out of our hands...even having them come within two feet of our outstreteched hands as we offered them scraps from our lunch.
Eyptian Vultures As Parts
I photographed a lot of the vultures because i never know when I might need some cool wing images for one of my composites. In fact, I have been thinking for some time about a person (man or child...haven't decided yet) standing on a cliff holding a set of wings as he prepares to fly. Could be very cool. One of the reasons I take trips like this one to Socotra is to stock up on parts and backgrounds that I can incorporate into my stock photography.
