The Birth of Venus

Botticelli painted "The Birth of Venus" in 1486, and Stephanie D. Roeser has recreated the masterpiece (originally commisioned the the Medeci family in Florence) in photographic form. She has done an admirable job of capturing the same ethereal sense of beauty and tranquility despite being limited by the photographic medium.

Venus On The Half Shell

It is easy to see why Botticelli's reknowned painting is often referred to as "Venus On The Half Shell", as the woman stands barefoot on an opened scallop shell, albeit a sizable one, near the sandy beach and gentle ocean waves. She is holding her long hair in a coy pose of modesty as she shyly gazes out to the sea. Stephanie managed to capture the same pastel colors and soft light of the original. One of the most challenging aspects was recreating the shore line, a task that required Photoshop manipulation of a number of landscape and seascape images.

A Photo Of The Birth of Venus On A Half Shell

When it comes to fine art and wall decor this Birth of Venus On A Half Shell photo makes for a fascinating and compelling choice. At first glance one might not even realize that it is not a print of the original painting but rather a photographic jewel in it's own right. Creating the image required numerous shoots along the Northern California coast as well as studio photo sessions for the shell, the flowers and the model who paitently posed for over an hour for the photography. Stephanie's attention to detail required countless hours in front of the computer, but the final product was well worth it!

Venus, Love And Beauty

Venus is the Goddess of love and in this depiction is an updated image for potential use in advertising and editorials that deal with both healthy and beauty. There is ample room for copy space and the image an be easily cropped as square, vertical or horizontal.
